Event: introduction to European WELCOME Project

WELCOME aims to connect 5 different major EU ecosystems (Berlin, Dublin, Milan, Madrid and Salamanca) working with local WELCOME partners to identify and engage the most relevant players of the web entrepreneurship ecosystems of Berlin, Dublin, Milan, Madrid and Salamanca (e.g. investors, mentors, corporates, media, successful WEs) with prospective, emerging and successful digital startups. The final goal is to create a Pan-European ecosystem in which every WE in one of the local ecosystems feels that belongs to this Pan-European ecosystem.

Gustavo Vinacua is director of BBVA Innovation Center. He has over 15 years experience in technology projects, telecommunications and retail and an extensive experience in business development, marketing and innovation. He also has been working in Ericsson, Amena, France Telecom and others.

Christian Lüdtke

He became CEO of ETVENTURE business ignition Berlin in 2011. He studied Business Economics at the University of Essen, Germany and earned his doctorate degree at the Technical University Braunschweig in Germany. After having worked as Assistant to the Board and later as Head of Controlling at a medium-sized logistic company, Christian joined Bertelsmann AG, Europe`s largest Media Company, where he held various positions in his over 10 years at this Media giant. Among others, he developed an in-house startup incubator in 2000. He eventually moved on to Corporate Controlling and Investments at Bertelsmann, where Christian’s work included M&A, controlling, and the critical evaluation of investments with focus on digital businesses. Furthermore, Christian handled the business-to- customer (on- and offline) publishing operations as well as media services. In 2005, he moved on to RTL Group, Europe`s largest TV Broadcaster, and developed business ideas for the diversification segment – such as Pay TV. Subsequently Christian developed an investment fund for Bertelsmann as Vice President Corporate Development. Later on, as founder and VP of Content & Production he was responsible for the successful development of scoyo, Germany’s biggest online learning platform for kids, which eventually got acquired by a Disney affiliate (SuperRTL). After the acquisition, Christian joined Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the world’s biggest educational publisher, located in Dublin, Ireland. As Senior Vice President of New Ventures and Innovation, he was responsible for the 100m USD-innovation fund of the publisher.

Isidro Laso

Head of Startup Europe Sector, European Commission Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (EC DG-Connect).

Since becoming a Commission official he has managed research projects and drafted research strategy objectives. From 2010 onwards he has been focused on creating a new endeavour within the EU institutions related to tech start-ups; the first output of this latest work is the Startup Europeinitiative. Isidro’s objectives for the Policy Fellowship are to share views on policy measures to strengthen the environment for web entrepreneurs in Europe; to learn new ways of policy making better adapted to an era of extremely rapid change that characterise the web startups; and to access international knowledge and best practices related to policies for web startup.

Emilio Corchado

He is chair of IEEE-Spain Section 2014-15, and Vice-Chair for IEEE SMC Spain, he is an innovation expert hired by international organizations such as the European Commission; the Grant Agency Czech Rep., the Spanish National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective. He has collaborated with web and mobile startups on close to 40 projects. He has patented software models and has the intellectual property of over 10 software tools and models related to the web and mobile technology. He has actively contributed to several past and current EU projects including ENGINE, SOFTCOMP, IT4Innovation, ICT COST Action IC1303, EMaCS, IntelliCIS and NISIS.

Karel Escobar

Assistant Manager at Tetuan Valley.

Karel Escobar is currently working as the Assistant Manager at Tetuan Valley. He was the coordinator of the Startup Mentor Program at Universidad San Pablo CEU, an innovative startup program for university students and also acted as a Marketing Strategies mentor during the program. He has worked on the ATALANTA (Transnational Accelerator Network Acceleration) project since February 2014. He is also the assistant in the application process for the Tetuan Valley Startup School.

Focusing on helping companies build and scale globally, through efficient online marketing strategies and implementation. In 2011, Ana Barreda joined a recently created company SociosInversores, which is now prominent in the field of Equity Crowdfunding. Currently, she manage the Marketing Department.

Eoghan Stack

Having graduated as an Electrical Engineer from University College Cork in 1997, Eoghan began his career designing integrated circuits with one of Ireland’s most successful R&D teams in 3Com Technologies.In 2005, Eoghan began working with one of Ireland’s leading entrepreneurs, Declan Ryan, in Ryan’s 10-year limited-life venture philanthropy fund, The One Foundation. Over the lifetime of the fund as Director of Investment Impact, Eoghan worked with over 25 Irish and Vietnamese non-profit companies, leading in over 25 multi-million euro investments and working with senior management teams to improve company effectiveness to deliver significant social impact.In 2013, Eoghan joined the Ryan Academy as Chief Commercial Officer. The academy is a partnership between DCU and the Ryan Family and aims to be the leading supporter of entrepreneurs and innovation in Ireland. As CCO, Eoghan is responsible for future development and commercial strategy of the Ryan Academy.

Alberto Onetti,

Alberto Onetti, Chairman and President. He graduated with 1st class honors from the University of Pavia, Master in International Finance and a PhD in Corporate Strategy. He is Professor at University of Insubria, where he leads the CrESIT Research Centre for Innovation and Life Sciences Management, and is a Visiting Professor at San Francisco State University. A seasoned serial entrepreneur, he co-founded Funambol, Inc., a mobile personal cloud company based in Silicon Valley (€25M+ in venture capital raised, development centers in Italy - 50+ engineers – Portugal and Romania). He sits on the boards of several private companies and startups. Alberto writes for Corriere.it, where he is co-editor of the column Silicon Valley, and for Corriere Innovazione.

Ignacio Pérez Dolset

Co-Founder of Zed, Founder of Ilion Animation Studios and Pyro Studios and Founder and CEO of the U-tad. Holds significant positions within the video game industry, he was president of Adese (Spanish Association of Publishers and distributors of software entertainment) between 1997 and 2002. Since June 2010 is the president of the Sectorial Digital Content Area AMETIC and in December 2012 he was electedas a vicepresident of the Association. He is also president of the Spanish Association of development video games companies and entertainment software (DEV).
